First of all let me say that for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at the Tonga Room. I have been wanting to go for years and my wonderful girlfriend took me here for my birthday. The tiki decor and ambiance was wonderful and we were able to sit next to the lagoon. It was very cool to listen to the excellent band play amid the occasional "rain". The service was also top notch and the drinks were tasty and strong. Which makes me a little hesitant to bring this up but the food was not up to snuff. Most dishes were either over seasoned or bland. Either too salty or not enough. The fried calamari was average and the salad was nice but the pork belly appetizer was a little hard around the edges with a much too salty and sweet sauce. For the main course my girlfriend got the Kahlua pork with it's overly sweet sauce overpowering any porky goodness. I got the Seafood Yellow Curry which was disappointing. Plenty of seafood but the curry was harsh and a little bitter. I'm not a gourmet but I can appreciate subtle layers of spices that complement each other and marry well but this was not the case. I just know that the food here could be much better than it is with not too much effort. This great place deserves better food.

If you've never been & just want to go for the experience, than you Must Check This Place Out. I'm going to assume it' stays busy, so make reservations OR if you're not in a hurry & you don't mind waiting, Why Not? The Ambience fosh'o is A1 & why your here, on top of the Live Music, Photo Ops Of Course It gets busy busy, but the service is great, you might have to wait a while, but because it's beautiful inside, you won't mind the wait & enjoy the company your visiting with. Bar Food & lots of fancy cocktails to chose from, it's a little pricy, but look where you at

Tonga room was a great experience! I loved the live music. There is a $50/person spending minimum but you can easily reach it! The food was actually very good! The portion sizes are huge and worth the price. My favorite was the seafood curry! Parking is only valet with the hotel or street parking. Definitely a great experience for first timers!

We went for drinks after getting married at city hall and we had the best time! The drinks were super strong and very tasty. The band was playing on the boat on the water and they were fantastic! They had such a fun set and got everyone dancing. They constantly interacted with the crowd too and even gave us newlyweds a shoutout :) Such a fun vibe and I loved the random thunderstorms lol Everyone from the gentleman who greeted us at the door to our server to the band was super friendly and offered the best service. We are planning to celebrate our anniversary at the Tonga room every year. Thank you for such a fun time!

Very interesting selection of signature drinks and apps. We did not have time to eat or see the show, but we did get to see the rain storm. One of our guests said that this place has not changed in 40 years. The banana bread old fashioned deserves a try. It's all palm fronds and pineapples in here!

The Tonga Room has set the standard for Tiki themed restaurants since it opened after WW2. Elaborate Tiki decorations set off the dining room surrounding the the "lagoon" are unmatched anywhere. The drinks and food menus are simple but adequate. Service is quick and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If you can't afford to reserve a table for the full dinner/drinks package(fairly pricey!), there is a first come, first served walk up bar area where you can have a drink and enjoy the must see surroundings.

Tonga! Tonga! This is one of the stranger bars that I've ever been in. Imagine a bar around a pool, with a band that plays on a boat that floats out into the middle of the pond. Drinks are outrageously overpriced. Insanely expensive. But they're strong. I didn't try the food. It looked below mediocre. The band played cover tunes and wasn't too great. The greatest thing about the experience was the indoor rainstorms that periodically rain down into the pond. The decor is tiki/nautical. There's ship parts and masts and island theme. The service is none too friendly. Get your expensive drink, check out the funky decor, and get out. There's a cover if you want a table, no cover if you want to stand around and drink. There's plenty of room, they just don't put out any chairs or barstools. The Tonga room is in the bottom floor of a hotel.

We were recommended by a few different people to visit the Tonga Room when in San Francisco, so we definitely wanted to go here! We used Open Table to make a reservation one week ahead for a Saturday evening. Open Table notes each person in the party pays $50 for a reservation. It's not very clear online, but that $50 charge then gets applied to the total bill. We had a party of 4, so essentially needed to spend $200. If you don't keep your reservation, your card gets charged that amount and it's not refundable. We arrived for our reservation and a line was already forming of people waiting to get inside. It is such a cool ambiance inside- there's a pool and the space is filled with a Hawaiian vibe. I appreciate their menu having pictures of all their drinks available to order. I chose the Divine Dragon, which was delicious! My husband tried the Wiki Wiki, which he really liked. My brother opted for the Tiki Meister- all really good. We did notice the menu of drinks on their website does not match the menu provided at the restaurant. We didn't order any food but they do have a great selection of shareables, entrees, and desserts. A couple of bachelorette parties were visiting this spot during our reservation, so clearly a popular spot for celebrations. Live music starts at 6, though we didn't stay for that, but I bet it's fun! Each person is charged $15 for the music if you're at the restaurant during a performance.
